Entering its sixth season, Evans Contemporary continues its dedication to the presentation of creative projects by national and international contemporary artists. It's mandate to launch contemporary exhibitions every four to six weeks offers a unique space for special projects and new endeavours for each exhibiting artist, while allowing artists to present projects that transcend the trends of the commercial visual art market.
CHAMPIONING ART AND ARTISTS
Located in the heart of Peterborough, Ontario's café and arts district, Evans Contemporary is privately owned and operated, and runs as a negative profit institute for contemporary art. The gallery receives no government or public arts funding. Through its generous supporters and patrons, Evans Contemporary strives to provide exceptional, contemporary, exhibitions to a region underserviced by visual culture, and serves as a rallying point for artists, cultural workers and art lovers. The gallery fills a void in the cultural landscape of the region, plays an important role as a leader in the cultural fabric of Peterborough and the Kawartha region and stands as a signifying site of local culture.
TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Having resurrected a derelict space in historic Bankers Common at considerable expense, Evans Contemporary has created a new, accessible, and spacious setting for the gallery through the hard work of director Paolo Fortin and numerous dedicated volunteers. Opened in November 2016 the new gallery continues its dedication to providing the community with exceptional exhibitions, unique events, and the formation of a common space that can be enjoyed by all. Although now open, Evans Contemporary's work continues as we build our program of exciting national and international exhibitions. Using its former third floor exhibition space in the same building block, Evan Contemporary has also created an affordable rental exhibition space for local artists, renaming it STAR X.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE ARTS IN PETERBOROUGH
Culture is receiving increasing recognition for its dynamic role in driving the economy and creating liveable communities. No other gallery in the region does what Evans Contemporary does. Exhibitions are free to the public, providing access outside of major centres to the talents of carefully selected contemporary local and international artists.
This nationally recognized gallery is growing and would welcome your financial contribution. There are several levels of support available. Independent benefactors like you are indispensable for reclaiming these heritage spaces and for sustaining a gallery that offers exceptional contemporary culture to the Peterborough community.
